Hi sweet friend,
Today’s post is an invitation to attend a virtual art show with me!
Also, did you know that looking at art can help improve your mood?
Also looking at birds and hearing birds sing, can do the same?
So join me in this brief art show tour that features both: art and birds and trees!
I made a brief video that shows some of the art I have on display at the Hexa Coworking center.
I had the pleasure and honor to be invited by fellow artist Weeda Hamdan. Weeda is a kindred spirit and visual artist painting the backyard to transform ordinary scenes into extraordinary ones. She paints gorgeous paintings that depict trees and nature in the most beautiful and serene of ways. All the paintings that you see in the video (that aren’t watercolors) were created by Weeda.
Weeda also had the brilliant idea to pair some of my Birds on Snacks paintings alongside with her tree paintings - it made perfect sense!
Slice of Still Life: Volume 2 Collection
The round panels below are watercolors on primed birch panels. If you’re not too familiar with watercolors you may be surprised that I was able to paint on wood. I did have to prime the panels first, with watercolor grounds. This allows for the surface to become ready for watercolors.
This collection was inspired by the moments we spend sharing food with someone we love. Maybe it’s a snack or a whole meal, but I wanted to celebrate the idea of sharing something tasty with a dear friend or family member.
Birds on Snacks: 2024 Collection
The following birds below are currently on display at HEXA, and you come visit them in person if you’re in the Dallas area.
If not, let me get you a closer look:
Hoopoe on a Honey Jar - this bird is native to Moldova (where I was born and grew up) and honey also happens to be something I often associate with the country. Growing up, I remember my grandfather having a bee hive and suiting up before going to tend to the bees.
Crested Treeswift on a Cà Phê Sua Đá - this bird is native to Vietnam. Because I wanted to paint a Vietnamese coffee cup (with the phin filter) I knew I wanted to pair it with a bird that was also common to the region.
Can you tell this birdy has had too much coffee?
Three Toed Kingfisher on a Tofu Kimbap - This bird is actually super tiny in real life. It might be smaller than a slice of kimbap, which is a snack I always crave after I watch a KDrama. If you’re also into K Dramas, we must chat about your favorites!
Titmouse on a Tater Tot - I debated for a while on whether I could pull off a tater tot in a fine art painting. And then I was like, oh what the hell, let me play a little. :)
Swallow Tailed Manakin on a Mooncake - It always baffles me when I come across birds that have such striking colors. I knew I had to paint this Manakin the moment I saw him.
